The Toronto Blue Jays former closer Jordan Romano signed weeks ago and they are still looking for his replacement which could end up being free agent Tanner Scott.

The Blue Jays bullpen was atrocious last season and it looks like it is headed in that same direction for the 2025 season if they cannot sign or trade for a solid pitcher like Tanner Scott or Ryan Helsley.

The Blue Jays potential offer for Tanner Scott has been announced

The Blue Jays need to find a solution for their terrible bullpen and adding an all-star caliber closer can certainly do that which is why they are rumored to be very interested in Tanner Scott.
According to reports, the Blue Jays could end up signing Scott to a sizeable deal worth $45 million on a three year term which would pay Scott an average salary of $15 million per season.
The Blue Jays do not have a true closer and Scott could fill the void. Kelly predicted that Scott would sign a three-year, $45 million deal with the Blue Jays. He was an All-Star for the first time in 2024. He was traded from the Miami Marlins to the San Diego Padres this season. He had a career-high 22 saves and a career-best 1.75 ERA. -Mohammed

If the Blue Jays can land Scott who is one of the best closers in baseball for only $15 million per season, they should be extremely happy especially after the season he had in 2024 finishing with a 1.75 ERA and 22 saves.
"Scott has been one of the most successful relievers in baseball over the past two seasons with a 2.04 ERA and 2.53 FIP across 146 games," wrote Kelly. "Still, you feel like he might be more like the top set-up man in the bullpen for a World Series contender, as opposed to the closer." -Kelly

While GM Ross Atkins is not known for dishing out a ton of money when it comes to bullpen pitchers, adding a player of Scott's caliber evidently comes at a price.
If the Blue Jays are serious about improving their bullpen this upcoming season, they will need to spend money as finding budget friendly players will keep them at the bottom.
Hopefully Atkins makes the right choice and signs Scott to a solid deal.
