The story between Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani And his interpreter Ippei Mizuhara has ended as he has been sentenced to four years in prison along with pain back $18 million in in illegal betting case.

It was well documented that he had stolen millions of dollars from the Major League Baseball superstar.

Ohtani case move on from this nightmare

Mizuhara pleaded guilty last year to one count each of bank fraud and subscribing to a false tax return, admitting to stealing millions from the Japanese player to pay off illegal gambling debts.

On Thursday, a federal judge in Orange County sentenced him to four years and nine months in prison, the same length of prison time prosecutors were seeking. The charges had carried a maximum possible sentence of 30 years. - Marissa Wenzke CBS News

Blue Jays were finalists for Ohtani last offseason

Prosecutors in the case explained to the court that Mizuhara had stolen $17 million from the baseball phenom that he was wiring money from the players checking account between 2021 and January 2024.
Last month, an audio recording obtained by the Associated Press surfaced, in which Mizuhara allegedly impersonated the baseball star on a call with a bank as he tried to transfer over $200,000. Prosecutors said he claimed the money was for a car loan. Marissa Wenzke CBS Sports

Ohtani was close two signing with the Toronto Blue Jays as he was I household name last offseason as many felt that the Jays had a chance to sign him. That was not the case and he went on to win the World Series with the Dodgers this year.

Blue Jays need to finish off season strong after many disappointments

This offseason has not gone any better for the Blue Jays as general manager Ross Atkins has worked the phones an with his management team trying to attract high profile stars but has struck out several times including Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and Roki Sasaki.
With only days left in the offseason and spring training around the corner, the Blue Jays will continue to attract at least one more free agent and potentially sign Vladimir Guerrero junior to a contract extension to help solidify the offseason.
