The dust continues to settle with the Toronto Blue Jays as they had struck out against Pete Alonso who remained with the New York Mets yesterday, but it appears they may be turning their attention to free agent Ty France.
Many questions circle this team as they had lost out to Juan Soto, Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki and now Alonso.
Blue Jays management trying to assess what's left in the market
The Jays seemed to be keen on upgrading their first base and adding France could be a great choice.
Ty France hit .234 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI in 2024 between the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds. It was a down year for France after hitting .250 in 2023 with the Mariners, but there's still an opportunity for him to bounce back. - Drew Von Scio Newsweek
Spring training is only a number of days away and the Blue Jays continue to assess the market see if there are viable candidates which includes France.
Adding him to the lineup would be crucial for his bat to come alive and to be a consistent offensive threat as his defence is not the best in the MLB.
The Blue Jays would then move Vladimir Guerrero JR to the designated hitter position which would give them the best case they can find.
France and Guerreo Jr would be their best case for a first base tandem
France's market value heading into the 2025 season is a five-year deal worth just under $70 million. This would provide him with an average annual value of $14 million. However, he would make considerably less with a down year in 2024.
It's been one of the worst-off seasons for the Blue Jays in terms of top talent free agents willing to come to Toronto and it will come down to what president Mark Shapiro and general manager Ross Atkins can do along with ownership as the team will need to find a way to be attractive to other players in the future.
