The Toronto Blue Jays have high hopes for catcher Alejandro Kirk in 2025 after he had a great second half of the season when Danny Jansen was traded to the Red Sox.

Kirk has been a very solid catcher for the Blue Jays over the last two years even earning a Gold Glove nomination in 2023 and despite a tough start to the 2024 season, he turned his game completely around in the second half.
From March 28 until April 12, Kirk slashed .133/.200/.133 in 50 plate appearances, with all six of his hits being singles to give him a -2 wRC+. For context, Kirk was an above-average hitter after those 50 plate appearances, slashing .271/.336/.393 with five home runs in 336 plate appearances from April 14 until the end of the season. -Delaney

The Blue Jays are hanging catcher Alejandro Kirk out to dry next season after refusing to sign a catcher

The Blue Jays want to have a big turn around in 2025 and to do so they plan on making quite a few changes to their roster in the off-season but the front office has stated that one area they are not concerned about is their current catcher duo.
Kirk was great for the Blue Jays in the second half of last year but had to take on a heavy work load as the Blue Jays two other options were Brian Serven and Tyler Heineman who are not real major league catchers.
According to MLB Trade Rumors, Alejandro Kirk is projected to make $4.1 million in arbitration this off-season, his second arbitration year. It was recently reported by The Athletic's Kaitlyn McGrath that the Blue Jays organization is comfortable with a Kirk and Tyler Heineman tandem, noting that they won't look heavily into adding a catcher this off-season. -Delaney

While Kirk is a great option for the Blue Jays, forcing him to take on the vast majority of the work load in 2025 due to Heineman being their second option might end up affecting Kirk's game in the long run.
