Trade talks seem to be heating up between the Red Sox and Blue Jays
According to MLB insider Jared Bloom, the Blue Jays might end up looking to trade Guerrero if they believe they will be unable to sign him to an extension and it looks like Boston might be a likely landing spot.
"Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays could not agree on an extension. Now, the slugger is slated to become a free agent following the end of the 2025 season," Bloom wrote. "If Toronto does not feel they are capable of re-signing Guerrero Jr. during the offseason, they can look to trade him.
He could fit in nicely with the Boston Red Sox, who do not seem too committed to having Triston Casas be the guy at first base." -Bloom
If the Blue Jays end up trading Guerrero to the Red Sox, it is a guarantee that the package coming back will be massive which is why that it is expected that Wilyer Abreu will be involved and so will Triston Casas.
Any deal here would likely begin with Triston Casas as the star in return. The Red Sox would likely also have to trade multiple other top-five prospects. They could look into sending Wilyer Abreu as well. -Pressnell
Trading Guerrero to a divisional rival does not make a ton of sense for the Blue Jays might they might not have a choice if they think they will lose him to free agency and the offer from Boston is too good to pass up.
Any trade for Guerrero would need to be loaded with talent, but this deal just doesn't make too much sense. If the Red Sox want to land Guerrero, it's likely going to happen in free agency next winter. -Pressnell
Time will tell if the Blue Jays are serious about moving Guerrero but they need to figure this out quickly since if they wait until the trade deadline, they will not get much in return.
