The Toronto Blue Jays have yet to begin negotiations with shortstop Bo Bichette but it looks like the chances of an extension are now up to him.

The Blue Jays do not have only Bichette on their mind in terms on an extension as Vladimir Guerrero Jr has yet to sign and the same goes for team manager John Schneider.

The possibility of the Blue Jays signing Bo Bichette is now up to the player it seems

According to reports, the Blue Jays seem to be interested in bringing Bichette back on a three to four year deal which would make a lot of sense for the team especially if they end up losing Guerrero to free agency next off-season.
Since the Blue Jays seem to be willing to make an offer to Bichette, it looks like the decision in now up to him as he has to decide if he wants to come back or would prefer a fresh start.
As extensions become a bigger question in the Blue Jays' storyline this season, Toronto is in a rocky position because they can no longer rely on a guaranteed future unless they extend a young star. Even if they may not be interested in an extension at the moment, they have no choice but to consider some kind of future guarantee whether they like it or not.
And that future may now rest on shortstop Bo Bichette's shoulders. -Chung

It seems clear that if the Blue Jays want to avoid a rebuild in the near future, they need to at least sign Guerrero or Bichette since the chances of them landing a player as good as one of these two in free agency seems slim.
If the Blue Jays are interested in contending for more than one year, they have to bet on someone they know and that player has to be Bichette if they can't reach an agreement with Guerrero Jr.'s camp. -Chung

The Blue Jays have no helped their case over the years with Bichette as they have clearly shopped him around on multiple occasions and now that they have yet to start negotiating, they have surely made him feel unwanted.
Hopefully GM Ross Atkins can come to his senses and figure out this situation since the Blue Jays are currently at risk of losing two of their best players next season.
