Pitcher Kevin Gausman will take the mound in Toronto Blue Jays' spring finale
Kevin Gausman is slated to kick off the Toronto Blue Jays' spring training finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, a strategic move that paves the way for his debut in the regular season rotation.
Gausman has been hurt earlier this spring training, leaving fans wondering about the nature of his absence and potential start of the upcoming season with the Blue Jays. When asked about his status after recent minor injury updates, Gausman had this to say; "I want to get in a game and get used to everything," he added, "clock, PitchCom, check those boxes before the season is about to start."
Although the Jays still have some other things to worry about during the first stretch of this years season, at the very least it seems that the beloved right-handed pitcher will be able to yet again hold the team together and bring some much needed shot-calling. Kevin Gausman is set to begin the rotation's first cycle from the back-end.
The fact that the team will most likely be sorely missing the presence of both Eric Swanson and Jordan Romano, Gausman is going to need to be relied on as a leading name for the Blue Jays. Toronto will be missing a closer and a set-up on the mound, which leaves questions in regards to how the Blue Jays will be handling this lack of versatility in their lineup for the near future.
