The 34-year-old Connecticut native was taken 11th overall by the Houston Astros in the 2011 MLB draft. Since making his debut in 2014, he has proven to be a offensive weapon at the plate and on the base paths, with tremendous defensive upside. In his 7-year tenure with the Astros, he was able to be a part of a World Series Championship team in 2017, while also being named the WS MVP.
In 2021, the career .267 hitter decided to take his talents up north, signing a six-year deal worth $150M with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Springer's statistics have dipped slightly since being with the Blue Jays, that being said, he has continued to be a staple at the top of the lineup and in center field while being named to the All-Star team in 2022. The tide turned in 2023 where Springer had his worst season in terms of offensive production, batting a less than impressive .258, with 21 home runs and 72 RBi's in 154 games. Where he may have struggled last year, he managed to be an effective defender manning the RF position.
There has been a big question mark for Springer heading into 2024, but it seems the questions have been answered in this year's Spring Training.
The Jays hope that the 2x Sliver Slugger Winner will stay hot and translate this offensive clinic into the regular season.
