Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins recently spoke about the team's currently injured players and there seems to be some uncertainty regarding Daulton Varsho's return.
Ross Atkins stated that Daulton Varsho might not be ready for Opening Day
Varsho missed the end of last season due to a shoulder strain and seems to still be in the recovery process and while it is not going poorly, it seems to be taking longer than expected.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins gave reporters updates on a few injured player including Bo Bichette and Will Wagner who he stated would be ready for Opening Day but stated that thinking that Varsho will be would be unrealistic.
Asked about the rehab work of Bo Bichette, Will Wagner & Daulton Varsho, Atkins said «no one's behind schedule.» Bichette & Wagner on track for opening day. Varsho: you never know but «that could be unrealistic.» Alek Manoah also off to «a good start» with his throwing program.
While Atkins did not give an exact time line as to how much time he believes Varsho will miss, this is unfortunate news for the Blue Jays who already have a few holes in the outfield and will now have to start the season without their top defender.
Hopefully some of the Blue Jays younger players will be able to fill the gap while Varsho recovers but as the team looks to come out of the gate strong in 2025, it will be a tough task for their young outfielders.
If the Blue Jays are able to land at least one outfielder this off-season it could likely help them quite a bit at the start f the season having at least one experienced glove out there.
