The New York Yankees announce some big news this morning that Hal Steinbrenner will now allow players on the team to grow facial hair as long as it is well groomed.
The Yankees have been known for years for their team rules which included all players having to be clean shaven during the season a rule that they have kept for decades.
The Yankees will now allow players to grow facial hair
Hal Steinbrenner stated this morning that the Yankees will now permit players and coaches to have well groomed facial hair when in uniform.
Steinbrenner stated that he has been looking into making the change for a few weeks now in which he has spoken with many former and current players to get their opinion on the matter before making the decision.
Statement from Yankees Managing General Partner Hal Steinbrenner on the alteration of Yankees facial hair policy:
According to reports,
Steinbrenner decided to take this decision after he felt that the Yankees were missing out on free agents signing due to their strict no facial hair rule which is why he changed it.
Hal Steinbrenner emphasized the possibility of losing out on players because of the beard policy as a reason to change it.
High-ranking Yankees officials, including owner Hal Steinbrenner, spoke with a number of players and former players over the past week as they considered changing their facial-hair policy, sources said, and this was a subject that consistently came up in those conversations.
Many fans thought this rule that the Yankees had was seriously outdated since beards are accepted in today's world and not seen as a bad thing anymore as many players around the league have facial hair.
Despite this rule change not seeming like a big deal, this will be the first season fans will see players in pinstripes with beards and at the end of the day might actually help them land some free agents that did not want to follow this old rule.
