Martinez was finally called up the majors half way through last season but after playing in only three games he received an 80 game suspension for using PEDs which he has now fully served.

Martinez would for sure have a spot on the Blue Jays this upcoming season with how he dominated in the minors last season but it looks like his defensive game might push him back to the minors.
Manager John Schneider stated that Martinez will need to prove himself at camp that he is capable defensively if he plans on making the team as they will be testing him out at second and third base.
John Schneider on #BlueJays prospect Orelvis Martinez, who still needs to prove's he's playable defensively:
«It's going to be expected of him to bounce between second and third, and he's got to put a lot of work in. It's going to be an interesting camp for him."
There is no doubt that Martinez is offensively gifted and that he could definitely help the Blue Jays in that department but it looks like they are not willing to risk it if he is not able to raise his defensive game.
There is also the possibility that the Blue Jays look to possibly move on from Martinez as they are still looking at possible trades that could help their team and with an abundance of infielders, he might be a solid player to move.
Martinez still has a chance at making the Blue Jays but he will need to prove himself at Spring Training if he is serious about making the team.
