The Toronto Blue Jays are looking for a new closer for next season and their could potential in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for pitcher Devin Williams.

Former closer Jordan Romano was non-tendered prior to the deadline and while GM Ross Atkins has stated that they will be aggressively pursuing him in free agency, they will still look at all options before closing any deals.

Blue Jays possibly interested in trading for Devin Williams

The Brewers closer Devin Williams is headed into the last year of his contract and with the time of money he should sign for next off-season, the Brewers seem to rather trade him now than agree on a contract extension.
Spotrac has projected that Williams should sign a 5 year contract worth around $70 million next year which the Blue Jays can more than afford if they want to spend that kind of money of a relief pitcher.
Spotrac projects Williams to sign a five-year, $70 million deal in free agency after next season. The Brewers do not generally hand out those types of contracts and have traded star pitchers before they hit free agency in the past. They did so with both Josh Hader and Corbin Burnes. -Mohammed

Williams is coming off an incredible season in Milwaukee as he finished with a 1.25 ERA but only pitched 21.2 innings with 38 strikeouts due to injuries but put up similar numbers with a 1.53 ERA in a full season in 2023.
If the Blue Jays trade for him, they would definitely have to give away at least a couple solid prospects but it could be a great move if they are able to get him then lock him down with a long term contract extension.
While Atkins has stated he will be pursuing Romano in free agency, due to his injury issues over the last 12 months, the Blue Jays need to look at the possibility than even if he comes back, he might not be able to be their main closer next season.
The Blue Jays need to start making moves this off-season before all the top players are gone regardless on who they chose as their closer for next season.
