The Toronto Blue Jays have officially closed a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates

The Toronto Blue Jays announced this evening that they have closed a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates involving pitcher Brett de Geus.
The Blue Jays have not made a ton of moves so far in 2025 as in 15 days, they have only signed pitcher Jeff Hoffman to a three year deal worth $33 million apart from this trade.

The Blue Jays signed Jeff Hoffman to a three year deal but they need to clear up some room of their 40 man roster before making it officially as they roster was full.
The Blue Jays decided to DFA de Geus to make room for Hoffman on their roster and they have now decided to trade him to the Pirates in exchange for future cash considerations.
Per a team announcement, the #BlueJays have traded RHP Brett De Geus to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.

The Blue Jays claimed de Geus off waivers last season from the Miami Marlins after he was DFA'd but he continued to struggled as he had a 15.43 ERA in 2.1 innings pitched with the Blue Jays.
De Geus had an all around tough season in 2024 as he was DFA'd by both the Marlins and the Seattle Mariners while finishing the season with a 7.15 ERA in 11.1 innings pitched.

Clearly trading away de Geus and making room for Hoffman on their roster was an easy decision to make after the number he put up last season.
