Spring training 2025 is kicking in to the next gear and Toronto Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia is ecstatic to be back with the organization after being traded to the Seattle Mariners last year.
A running joke around the Blue Jays after Yimi Garcia was traded last summer was that he'd be back once he hit free agency. @ShiDavidi
It became apparent that he wanted to return to the Blue Jays even though many teams had phoned him to acquire his services as he developed a true bond with the team and a good working relationship with general manager Ross Atkins.
Garcia looking forward to season ahead
«The Blue Jays were my first priority. I had a good feeling I will be back here when I got traded. I like it here. I had a good meeting when I left with Ross (Atkins). I like how they treat people, your family and the players. It's a little bit different than other teams.» Shi Davidi
He was able to secure himself a two-year deal worth $15 million and also will help strengthen the Blue Jays bullpen as they have added Nick Sandlin and former Blue Jays draft pick Jeff Hoffman.
They were also quick to point out that the Blue Jays also retained two prospects from the Mariners who will continue to add more depth to the JS which includes outfield prospect Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp.
«We talked about it - it feels a little bit strange,» a grinning Clase said through interpreter Hector Lebron. "There was the trade and now we're all together here. Yimi, I'm glad he's here. He's a great human being. We've been talking a lot. It's all good.» Jonatan Clase via interpreter
Blue Jays hope for strong start to season
The dust is continuing to settle around the Blue Jays organization after the news regarding Vladimir Guerrero junior's contract extension talks failing to sign has the team looking forward as grapefruit league is set to begin on Saturday for the Jays will take on the New York Yankees.
The team is hoping for a strong Spring Training and a strong start to both Grapefruit League and their new season as several players including Guerrero junior and Bo Bichette will be looking for strong production to help bolster their contract numbers.
With Garcia back and the added depth, the Blue Jays will continue to work the phones throughout the year and potentially add another bat and more pitching depth through trade according to general manager Ross Atkins.
There is opportunity for players like Clase and Addison Barger who are trying to make a strong impression to find as much playing time as possible.
