Blue Jays manager John Schneider spoke on his former catcher Danny Jansen signing with the Rays
In a recent interview, Schneider was asked about Jansen signing with the Rays in free agency since the two have a very close relationship after spending many years together in the Blue Jays organization.
Schneider joked around stating that he is happy that Jansen will be staying in the AL East this season since the Blue Jays will get to play him multiple times and will try to hit him with a few pitches.
John Schneider, with a big smile, on former #BlueJays C Danny Jansen:
"I'm thrilled for him to get the opportunity to stay in the AL East so we can try to hit him with a few pitches this year."
"I hope he sweats a ton behind the plate down at Steinbrenner Field all summer."
Clearly Schneider was joking and he has a very close relationship with Jansen which was made evident when the Blue Jays trade Jansen to the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline and the Blue Jays manager voiced how sad he was to see him go.
Fans were surprised that the Blue Jays did not make Jansen an offer since they could benefit from another catcher and since he only ended up signing a one year deal, they could have definitely afforded him.
Hopefully Atkins' plan to stick with their current catcher duo will not end up harming them down the line.
