Toronto Blue Jays fans have been wondering what will happen with Vladimir Guerrero's contract extension and GM Ross Atkins finally gave details on the situation during an interview with Keegan Matheson.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins finally gives details on Vladimir Guerrero Jr contract extension
Atkins spoke to the media a few weeks ago at the annual GM meetings but failed to give any real details on the Guerrero contract extension situation, all he did was praise Guerrero's 2024 season.
This time around, Atkins actually told MLB insider Keegan Matheson that they need to stay disciplined when it comes to the contract extension but that they are very hopeful to get a deal done.
Ross Atkins says the #BlueJays need to «stay disciplined» to how they view extension talks with Vladdy, adding:
«Nothing has changed in terms of our pursuit of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and we are very hopeful to extend him.»
Clearly Atkins wants to bring Guerrero back to Toronto but it seems like they will only be willing to pay a certain price for him which is why he stated that they need to stay disciplined during the negotiations.
While the Blue Jays seem hopeful to sign Guerrero to an extension, there has been rumors that he is starting to look towards heading into free agency especially after seeing the kind of money Juan Soto got last night.
The chances of Guerrero signing a team friendly deal after the team has taken this long to state their stance is very unlikely.
