The Arizona Fall League has officially begun a Toronto Blue Jays top prospect pitcher Kendry Rojas had a horrendous first game.
The young pitcher prospect is the 11th top prospect for the Toronto Blue Jays according to the MLB pipeline as they have high hopes for Rojas but he had a brutal start with the Scottsdale Scorpions.
Rojas took the mound yesterday in the Arizona Fall League in a brutal outing only lasting only 1 inning while giving up 4 hits,2 earned runs and striking out 2 batters with one walk.
LHP Kendry Rojas, #BlueJays' No. 11 top prospect per MLB Pipeline, had a rough AFL debut this afternoon.
1.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K & 32 pitches (21 strikes)
Rojas excelled to a 2.59 ERA & 21.5% K-BB% in 62.2 innings across 3 levels (CPX, A & A+) this past season.
This was far from what the Blue Jays expected in Rojas' first Arizona Fall League game as he had a great season in Single-a and high-a ball with a 3.75 ERA across the board in 20 games with 82 strikeouts.
Last season, Rojas enjoyed a breakout performance at single-A Dunedin, posting a 3.75 ERA and 4.34 FIP with 82 punchouts across 20 games (15 starts) with the minor-league Blue Jays. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury cost the young lefty over two months this year, limiting him to 62.2 innings across three levels (Complex League, single-A, high-A). -Hall
Hopefully the young pitcher will be able to bounce back in his next outing as the team clearly expects a lot more from him moving forward.
