The Astros seem very interested in acquiring Vladimir Guerrero Jr
The Blue Jays seem to be unsure and what to do with Guerrero and many believe that if somehow Toronto is able to land Soto on a monster deal, they will likely let Guerrero walk in free agency as they do not want to pay both players.
"Signing Soto, on the other hand, almost certainly would ensure Guerrero's departure after next season, unless the Jays are willing to carry two monster contracts," writes Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
There is a chance that if the Blue Jays are able to land Soto that they start seriously listening to offers on Guerrero since if they let him walk in free agency they will get one season out of him but no return.
According to reports,. the Astros are looking for a first baseman and have their eyes on Pete Alonso but if they are unable to land him they would love to bring in Guerrero as they are hoping to go back to the top of the American League.
Houston would have to pony up a ton of cash, again something they seemingly aren't willing to do, but with some of the other contracts coming off their books and a clear need at the position, Soto going to Toronto could open up the possibility of the Astros signing Guerrero. -Wakai
The Blue Jays are in a bit of a tough situation as the longer they wait to see what happens with Soto before making a move with Guerrero the more he will grow frustrated and want to leave once his contract is up.
The front office has created this unfortunate situation with Guerrero since if they would have made him an offer earlier, he would have likely taken a hometown discount and remained in Toronto for his entire career.
