Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins finally spoke on the Vladimir Guerrero Jr contract extension yesterday making some interesting comments regarding if his contract will help attract top tier free agents.
Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins states that big time free agents are not concerned if the team brings back Vladimir Guerrero Jr
After a disappointing 2024 season, many insiders and fans believe that the Blue Jays will have a hard time attracting the big names in free agency especially if they don't extend Guerrero because it does not seem like they actually want to start winning.

Atkins spoke on the subject yesterday stating that he does not believe that a Guerrero extension will impact free agents wanting to come to Toronto as they already are already interested in the market, the city, the country and don't need more.
I don't know - that's hard to project. I think what I can tell you is that we have had a good number of players that like this market, they love this city, they love this country.
They've seen the success this group has had. Obviously, they're also aware that we're coming off a disappointing year, but I don't think that's been anything that has been an inhibitor. -Atkins
Despite Atkins beliefs, it is hard to believe that free agents that are looking to win would be willing to look past the teams roster and the fact that their best player remain unsigned because they simply like the Toronto area.
While playing for the Blue Jays is a unique situation in the MLB being as they are the only Canadian team, having a nice city with great fans can only get a free agent excited to certain point.
A player that is looking to win will not look at a team with so many uncertainties like the Blue Jays as a top destination if the front office is not making moves to improve the team.
Hopefully Atkins knows what he is doing but it is worrisome to think he can get all these great signings down without extending
Guerrero.
