The Toronto Blue Jays seem to be in deep negotiations with Vladimir Guerrero Jr but they are looking at all possible options such as trading him if a deal is not able to get done.
The Blue Jays asking price for Vladimir Guerrero Jr has been revealed
According to MLB reporter Andy Martino, the Blue Jays are not willing to deal Guerrero as that seems to be the message they gave to the Mets but if they are unable to sign him, there is a good chance their plan changes.
According to SNY's Andy Martino, the Mets spoke with the Blue Jays about the slugging first baseman, who is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season, and while nothing went past "checking in," Toronto is giving off the impression they are not willing to deal Guerrero. -Martinez
If the Blue Jays are unable to sign Guerrero, reports suggest that they are looking for a massive package in exchange that includes a package similar to what the San Diego Padres received for Juan Soto.
According to the report, the Blue Jays are looking for major leaguers and top prospects in a package that would exceed the value the San Diego Padres received when they dealt Juan Soto to the Yankees last offseason before they even consider a trade for their perennial All-Star first baseman. -Martinez
While most believe that Ross Atkins should simply offer Guerrero the amount he is looking for, the Blue Jays front office seem stuck on trying to get him on a bargain deal.
After the season Guerrero had in 2024, it makes sense that he wants to get paid since he knows he will be able to get around $500 million if he just waits until free agency next off-season.
Guerrero, who is entering his age-26 season, had an incredible 2024. Aside from hitting 30 home runs, the slugger hit a career-high .323 and drove in 103 runs. He also had a .396 OBP and a .940 OPS. He even played a handful of games (12) at third base. -Martinez
If Toronto wants to become competitive once again in 2025, signing Guerrero to an extension seems like the only choice regardless of the amount.
