A recent report revealed that at least 4 Canadian MLB prospects should make an Opening day roster next season including Toronto Blue Jays prospect Damiano Palmegiani.
Report reveals at least 4 Canadian prospects should be on an opening dday roster
The first is the Toronto Blue Jays Damiano Palmegiani who has been dominant in Triple-A and deserves a shot in the majors especially when the Blue Jays have so many question marks in their infield.
Must read on Blue Jays Insider
Next season is somewhat of a make-or-break year for Palmegiani. He showed in 2023 that he has the power (23 home runs) and patient approach (13.1 BB%) to be an effective hitter and led the Blue Jays farm system in home runs this year with 21. -Georges
The Canadian prospect the most likely to make the MLB next season is the Chicago Cubs' Owen Caissie who is the Cubs #2 prospect and dominated in Triple-A last season.
Caissie is the player with the highest likelihood of becoming a star on this list. Appearing at #2 among Cubs prospects and #34 overall in MLB Pipeline's midseason update last year, the 6'3″, 190-pounder has the chance to be a quality starter in the outfield for a long time. -Georges
Pickering, Ontario native Denzel Clarke also has a chance at making the Oakland Athletics next season as they are coming off a down year and are in need of solid outfilders.
Denzel Clarke has all the tools to become a star and has a great chance to debut with the Athletics in 2025 and follow in the footsteps of his cousins, Bo and Josh Naylor, as a Major League Baseball player. -Georges
Finally there is Eric Cerantola who has a good chance to make the Kansas City Royals next season even though he isn't as highly regarded as the other players on this list.
Coming in at #29 on MLB Pipeline's top prospect list for the Royals this winter, Cerantola isn't as highly regarded as the above two players. However, it is not uncommon for relief pitchers to fly under the radar in prospect circles. -Georges
While none of these players have guranteed spots, hopefully a few of them if not all of them will make the MLB next season and represent Canada as they do it.
