The Toronto Blue Jays closed a massive trade with the Cleveland Guardians for second baseman Andres Gimenez earlier this off-season and many believe that it will end up doing them more harm than good.

The Blue Jays traded top rookie Spencer Horwitz to the Guardians as part of a package in early December that brought back Andres Gimenez and relief pitcher Nick Sandlin.

The addition of Andres Gimenez might end up harming the Blue Jays down the line

At the time of the trade, most did not believe it was a smart move as Gimenez is a great defensive player but has never been solid hitter which is what the Blue Jays are in need of.
MLB reporter Kerry Miller believes that this acquisition will end up doing the Blue Jays more harm than good even if Gimenez is a Gold Glove winner.
Will the trade blow up in the Blue Jays' face? Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes so, projecting the move as one of the most likely offseason transactions to "crash and burn" from this winter. -Roberts

Many believe that the issue is that Gimenez' stats at the plate have continued to trend downwards over the last few seasons and he is still owed a crazy $94 million which is a ton of money.
Giménez, 26, already has three Gold Gloves, an All-Star appearance, and 18.6 career bWAR to his name. But he's owed a shocking $94 million over the next five seasons, and if his offense continues trending downward (82 OPS+ last season), the Blue Jays may regret signing up to pay that cost. -Roberts

Another issue is that the Blue Jays also gave up a possible future star in Spencer Horwitz who put up solid numbers in his first season in the MLB which could end looking like a big mistake.
"Moreover, what Toronto gave up to get Giménez was an outfielder drafted in the fourth round last summer and a rookie first/second baseman (Spencer Horwitz) who hit 12 home runs and posted a 125 OPS+ in 97 games played this past season." -Miller

Hopefully this move ends up making Ross Atkins look great but there are definitely some worrisome factors as of right now.
