The Chicago Cubs just announced that they have closed a deal for the Houston Astros for pitcher Ryan Pressly after he denied a trade to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Astros relief star Ryan Pressly, pursued seriously by 3 teams, has full no-trade and told the Astros he's disinclined to go East or West. So that's a «no» for Jays, 1 of the teams. He hasn't committed either way yet on Cubs, who're trying @BNightengale 1st on Cubs interest
The Cubs trade for relief pitcher Ryan Pressly from the Astros
Pressly apparently rejected three teams which included the Blue Jays a few days ago as he did not want to be moved and has a no trade clause in his current contract.
MLB insider Jeff Passan announced this afternoon that Pressly waived his no trade clause for the Cubs as a deal has been made between the two teams peding a medical examination.
The Chicago Cubs are finalizing a trade to acquire closer Ryan Pressly from the Houston Astros, pending medical review, sources tell ESPN. Pressly will waive his no-trade clause to Chicago to facilitate the move, and Houston will send money to help cover his $14 million salary.
The Astros have also sent the Cubs $14 million in the trade to help pay his 2025 salary which actually only leaves the Cubs to pay Pressly $1 million next season.
The return heading back to Houston is still unknown as the deal is still pending as the medical evaluation has yet to be done.
MLB insider Jon Heyman also added that Pressly will be getting a new no trade clause with the Cubs for the final season of his contract as he will be an unrestricted free agent next off-season.
