Toronto Blue Jays infielder Addison Barger has a very uncertain future in Toronto as they do not have a spot for him defensively and his offense has struggled in the MLB.
Blue Jays prospect Addison Barger's future in Toronto does not look promising
Barger has not been solid enough during his time in the infield to lock in a spot at either second or third base next season which is why his only shot would be to possibly play in the outfield.
The Blue Jays could continue to try him in the corner outfield spots to give his plus arm some time to shine but historically, he has the most experience on the left side of the infield. For a team looking for a third baseman, this would generally favour someone like Barger heading into Spring Training. -Shushkewich
Another issue is that Barger needs to find his power swing again that was seen in the minors as he has struggled at the plate in the majors last season.
Barger will likely get a lot less chances in the MLB this season due to these problems and the fact that the Blue Jays want to actually compete this season which is why he might end up in the minors for most of the year or could be traded.
Ultimately the direction isn't that clear heading into the winter but when the Jays gave him some time to get his feet wet in the big leagues, the club saw better results from Barger. He likely doesn't get that type of leeway to start the campaign in 2025 given the contention mentality from the front office -Shushkewich
While Barger future is not completely done in Toronto, he has a steep hill to climb coming up as he did not take full advantage of his opportunity last season.
