The Blue Jays were said to have made Burnes the biggest offer made to him in free agency but he ended up signing a six year deal with the Diamondbacks worth $210 million.
The truth behind what happened between the Blue Jays and Corbin Burnes finally announced
The Blue Jays made a real effort to try and land Burnes this off-season making him a massive offer and despite many believing they would close him, they ended up missing out as they did on many other free agents.
According to TSN's Scott Mitchell, the Blue Jays actually thought they had a done deal with Burnes but he ended up contacting the Diamondbacks and backing out of the deal with the Blue Jays at the last minute.
According to @ScottyMitchTSN :
«The Jays came oh-so-close to landing Corbin Burnes recently, with the club at one point believing it was close to a done deal, before family considerations turned them towards Arizona.»

The reasoning behind why Burnes contacted the Diamondbacks who were not originally interested in signing him is because he lives in Arizona and wanted to stay home since his wife just gave birth.
This was an unfortunate situation that the Blue Jays could not see coming as everything took place right before they closed the deal.
If the Blue Jays were able to land Burnes, their starting rotation would have been stacked for the 2025 season but unfortunately that is not what happened.
