The Toronto Blue Jays are taking some serious interest in international free agent Roki Sasaki and there was a massive update announced late last night.

The Blue Jays are still desperate to sign a starting pitcher after missing out on Corbin Burnes and while they are eyeing a few MLB free agents such as Jose Quintana and Jack Flaherty, they seem very interested in Sasaki as well.

While no one expected the Blue Jays to have a real shot at landing Sasaki this off-season, it looks like things have taken a turn for the better as they have now jumped up to one of the top team's to land him.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Blue Jays actually had a meeting with Sasaki last week and things went really well as the Blue Jays seem to actually have a chance at landing him.

Despite the Blue Jays looking to be in a solid spot with Sasaki, they still have some serious competition as the Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are all interested.
Rosenthal and McCullough note the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, New York Mets and Chicago Cubs are among the team believed to be pursuing him in addition to Toronto. -TSN

The main issue for the Blue Jays landing Sasaki is that he is apparently prioritizing pitching development in his decision making which is an area the Blue Jays do not have a ton of strength in.
However, Rosenthal and McCullough write that the Jays "do not seem an obvious fit" for Sasaki, who is believed to be prioritizing pitching development in his decision making. -TSN

Landing Sasaki could be massive for the Blue Jays but unfortunately it seems to be their staff that could end up making them miss out of him.
Hopefully Ross Atkins finds a way around this issue but at the present moment it seems unlikely.
