The Toronto Blue Jays have been very interested in free agent Pete Alonso and it looks like they have officially making an offer.
The Blue Jays have officially made Pete Alonso an offer
The Blue Jays signed Anthony Santander but are still looking to make a few big additions, one being Alonso who they finally made a very solid offer to which is apparently a three year contract.
According to reports the Blue Jays have made
Alonso a three year offer at $75 million which will pay him an average salary of $25 million per season.
There's a sense that a 3 year, $75 million contract between Pete Alonso and the Blue Jays is close. The Mets last offered Alonso 3 years at $68-70M.
This offer is about $5-$7 million more than the offer the New York Mets made him which is a three year contract for $68-$70 million.
MLB reporter Mark C. Healey also announced not long after the offer was announced that the Blue Jays and Alonso are nearing a deal.
I'm hearing Pete is close to signing with Jays. Don't know specific #s
The Blue Jays seem to be all in on Alonso and signing a hitter of that caliber for $25 million per season seems like a no-brainer especially when comparing it to how much George Springer currently makes.
"My sense is there's real interest there from the Blue Jays [in signing Pete Alonso] and from my read that I have on the situation, Alonso would probably be okay with coming here. I think he is open to coming here."
- Ben Nicholson-Smith
If the Blue Jays sign Alonso and are able to get an extension done with Guerrero, they will have one of the best batting lineups in baseball next season.
