The Toronto Blue Jays management team has been coming up short over the past number of weeks but appear to be linked and highly interested in two-time World Series champion pitcher Max Scherzer.
The #BlueJays have expressed interest in free-agent RHP Max Scherzer, per @bnicholsonsmith
Their interest has intensified as general manager Ross Atkins has been unable to attract several prominent names from the free agency pool and it appears that the Blue Jays are turning to the veteran pitcher to potentially join the roster.

Scherzer would help Blue Jays rotation in 2025
The 17 year veteran did not have a strong season last year after he had returned to the major leagues after undergoing back surgery last offseason. Scherzer has logged many innings in his storied career but would be a great veteran to add to the roster as he knows how to win.
Scherzer underwent back surgery last offseason and was expected to miss at least a bit of time at the start of the 2024 campaign while recovering, but subsequent issues with nerve irritation in his triceps, shoulder fatigue, and a hamstring strain resulted in what was pretty close to a lost season for both Scherzer and the Rangers as a whole. - Mark Polishuk MLB Trade Rumors
Over the past number of years, Scherzer has always been linked with his former teammate in Justin Verlander who just signed with the San Francisco Giants two weeks ago and was given a one year $15 million deal.
This now puts Scherzer in the front and centre for veteran pitchers that remain on the free agent market.

Blue Jays have signed a few pitchers for help this offseason
This off season has been underwhelming to say the least even with the Blue Jays
signing former draft pick Jeff Hoffman and Yimi Garcia. The Jays have always been in the mix or the front runner to landing players this offseason which include Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes and was a finalist with Roki Sasaki who became a Los Angeles Dodger a few days ago.
Even though Scherzer may feel like a consolation prize considering all the talent that the Jays missed out on, he is still a good pitcher with veteran and leadership pedigree that the Blue Jays could use and also give some innings and starts that would help the rotation.
«As currently constructed, the Blue Jays might be a tougher sell for» Scherzer, Nicholson-Smith writes, as even if Scherzer's market might be somewhat limited by his age and recent injuries, he would surely still prefer to play for a contending team if he has options available. Ben Nicholson-Smith Sportsnet
It may be a tough sell for the Blue Jays currently as the roster construction does not appear ideal for many players to come. But it remains to be seen on whether the deal could get done in the Blue Jays can continue to find help in the off season.
