Toronto star baseball columnist Mike Wilner wrote a scathing review of the Toronto Blue Jays management and their colossal screw up over not acquiring Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki who chose to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Not clickbait, not rage-farming, not performative outrage. I wrote about #Bluejays sensational financial screw-up in their futile chase for Roki Sasaki because I genuinely believe that this should be the last straw for this front office.

Wilner wrote that the Blue Jays had finished second yet again to one of the
premier available free agents who would have augmented the Blue Jays pitching significantly and given them a new look as Sasaki can pitch up to 102 miles an hour.

Jays and their 12 million gamble for Sasaki

The Blue Jays made a deal for $2,000,000 in a trade with the Cleveland guardians but were forced to take on a bad contract in miles straw. The idea was to acquire more extra bonus pool money that would have been offered to Sasaki to help attract him to Toronto.
Friday morning, the Jays did that by a reported $2 million in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians. But in exchange, they had to take the anchor contract of outfielder Myles Straw. - Mike Wilner the Toronto Star
.
«Everything we hear about the Blue Jays is that they're a first-rate organization in how they treat players What is it going to take to have someone believe in that?»

In the end, the Blue Jays made their deal with the guardians an essentially flushed $12 million down the drain as they must pay Straw and do not have Sasaki in their ranks.

A grow trend of losing out to top free agents for the Blue Jays

As Wilner points out, this loss feels different compared to other players the Jays were in the mix but fell short. Losing out to Shonei Ohtani and Juan Soto and Ted Williams were all bitter disappointments for the fanbase and likely management.
Bo Bichette, Daulton Varsho and Chad Green were the Blue Jays player contingent that met with Roki Sasaki in Toronto last week

It's safe to say a change is needed at the management level as the Jays continue to fall short of acquiring this great talent which could have turn the Jays back into a true contender.
But the pursuit of Sasaki did, and (no pun intended) it should be the last straw for a front office that had an incredible team in 2021 and made it worse with each passing year. Mike Wilner The Toronto Star

What's even more frustrating is that Rogers Communications who own the Blue Jays is willing to shell out the money for these talented players and yet this management team cannot seem to find a way to close the deal and improve the roster.
Since 2021 the team has progressively worsened and likely may miss the playoffs yet again this year due to the lack of depth and acquiring talent in the offseason which is badly needed for the Blue Jays.
It's certainly a matter of time to when Rogers will pull the plug on this management team and attempt to hire managers who are more competent and not waste millions of dollars when a deal was not in place all along.
