According to reports, the Toronto Blue Jays have some interesting moves they will be making this off season involving rookie Will Wagner.
The Blue Jays acquired Wagner in one of the biggest trades of the MLB trade deadline which saw beloved pitcher Yusei Kikuchi in which Wagner was part of the package that came back to Toronto.
Wagner started off with the Blue Jays organization in Triple-A but was quickly brought up to the majors after putting up great numbers which he continued to do in the Majors.
Sources has reported that the Blue Jays plan on possibly having Wagner as the team's opening day second baseman and possibly even taking George Springer's spot as leadoff hitter next season.
"Everything that I'm hearing is that Will Wagner can be the opening day 2nd baseman and possibly the leadoff hitter..."
- Caleb Joseph on Blair & Barker
There has been also been reports of Spencer Horwitz taking Springer's spot at leadoff next season but the issue with him is that the Blue Jays apparently do not find his defensive game good enough which is why there has been rumors that he may be trade in the off-season.
Horwitz and Wagner have the best profiles for leadoff so this makes sense.
It does feel like Horwitz might be shipped out this off season.
Fans like Wagner as a solid young player but do not feel confident with him as the Blue Jays leadoff hitter due to his lack of experience.
If he's our lead-off hitter, come next spring. We might as well sign a lease in the basement.
This is the new normal moving forward under Atkins. Getting excited about Will freaking Wagner. Have fun with that
