The Buzz around the 17-year veteran Joey Votto signing with his hometown has gotten many fans excited, but the injury to his ankle and a minor-league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays have made his path back to the majors an uncertainty.

Joey Votto was set to prove himself to the Blue Jays that he still had what it took to compete at a high level and spring training is where he was going to do it. It looked promising as Votto homered in his first and only at bat, though after tripping over a bat in the dugout, he has been sidelined with an ankle injury.
The Blue Jays have announced that Votto will stay in Dunedin for the foreseeable future for extended spring training, where he will continue to work out and return his strength at the team's player development complex.
The recovery to his ankle is looking promising as he is likely to return to baseball exercises soon, though, the road back to the majors is not going to be a short one. The uncertainty is there, Votto still needs to be sent down for assignment, play well, and find his swing again. A career .294 hitter with over 350 homeruns, if the 40-year-old Votto can show that he can defy his age, he will add much needed depth and leadership that the young Blue Jays need, the Jays Manager is certain of that.
«As long as he is doing what he's capable of, he's going to help us win.» - John Schneider

With Votto's absence, Vogelbach, who was also trying to make the team, was notified by Schneider that he had earned his spot in the lineup.
