MLB insider Shi David just revealed that the Toronto Blue Jays almost signed Yordan Alvarez back in 2015 in International free agency signing period but ended up deciding otherwise.
Alvarez is now one of the top hitters in the MLB after another incredible season with 35 homeruns and a .308 batting average but back in 2015, he was just a Cuban outfielder that was trying to get signed and the Blue Jays were almost that team.
The Blue Jays missed out of signing Yordan Alvarez back in 2015 when they signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Davidi recently announced that the Blue Jays had a chance to sign Alvarez back in 2015 during the same year they got Vladimir Guerrero Jr as he signed a $3.9 million contract.
The Blue Jays reportedly worked out Alvarez and were strongly considering signing him but some people in the organization were against in which is why he ended up signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
According to Shi Davidi the Blue Jays nearly signed Yordan Álvarez as an IFA in the same class as when they signed Vladimir Guerrero Jr back in 2015.
What could have been. #BlueJays
Baseball is one of the hardest sports to evaluate young players since so many do not end up panning out which is why it is not the Blue Jays fault that they end up walking away since no one knew he would end up being this good.
While that it understandable, the hard part is thinking how incredible it would have been to have both Guerrero and Alvarez on the same roster hitting back to back, one thing is for certain, the Blue Jays offense would not be struggling as much as they have been.
