The subject of a salary cap has always surrounded baseball but after the Los Angeles Dodgers off-season, fans are starting to push the idea that the league needs to look at implementing it.

The Dodgers have had an incredible off-season as they have spent an incredible amount of amount and are now $70 million over the luxury tax limit and have the most money spent by a long shot.

Fans are pushing on social media to have the MLB put in a salary cap for the 2027 season

The Dodgers have cleaned up this winter in free agency signing some incredible players like Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott and Teoscar Hernandez all while spending a ton of money to bring these players in which is why the subject of a cap has come up.
Many fans have taken to social media to state that the MLB should look at bringing in a salary cap to make things more even between powerhouse franchises like the Dodgers and lower income teams like the Orioles and Rockies.
The drumbeat from fans, at least on social media, seems to be getting louder for a salary cap. It's hard to argue: if all 30 teams were capped at spending, say, $200MM on player payroll, the regular season playing field would be leveled significantly. There would be star free agents the Dodgers, Mets, and other big markets simply could not sign. The salary cap would be tied to league revenue, and would rise accordingly. I'm not convinced a salary cap (and floor) is the only way to improve parity, but it's the most obvious one. -Dierkes

MLB owners have been wanting a salary cap for years which is what led to the 1994 lockout but the players are the ones that continue to want no part in a cap.
MLB owners have wanted a salary cap for a long time. You may recall that was the reason for the 1994 strike, which cost us the World Series that year. The players did not give in to that demand, though they did allow for the first luxury tax in subsequent years. -Dierkes

Baseball is in one of the best spots it has been in over the course of the last decade as fans interest has picked up once again which is why making such a massive change could ruin that.
The idea of adding a salary cap certainly comes with its pros and cons but it is up to the league to see which side is more favorable.
There is also the fact that trying to switch things and implementing a salary cap would likely result in a lockout.
