Toronto Blue Jay first round pick and top pitching prospect Brandon Barriera undergoes revolutionary 'hybrid' Tommy John surgery.
The ligament replacement surgery combined with an internal-brace procedure on his left elbow is expected to see a recovery period of 12 to 18 months.
The 23rd overall pick in the 2022 Draft, has undergone a combination Tommy John surgery and internal brace procedure on his throwing elbow. The #BlueJays expect their No. 4 prospect to miss at least the rest of the season.
Barriera's agent revealed the operation on Monday morning, a confirmation subsequently provided by Blue Jays manager John Schneider later that day.
"It's unfortunate, obviously, for anyone especially a first-round pick, It sucks for his development and losing a year and slows us down, too." - Schneider
Barriera, the promising talent, earned his spot as Toronto's first-round draft pick in 2022, getting selected 23rd overall.
Barriera at only 20-years-old has pitched in the Blue Jays minor league system for the last two seasons accumulating an ERA of 4.57 across eight starts. He has 26 strikeouts over 21 2/3 innings.
