The Toronto Blue Jays have a seriously big off season coming up to which general manager spoke of during his press conference today.
While Atkins did not give a ton of answers he did mention how they will need to be more aggressive compared to last off-season when it comes to acquiring bullpen pitchers since all they did last season was pick up Chad Green's $21 million option.
An indication that Blue Jays are prepared to spend on bullpen: GM Ross Atkins said they're prepared to move "a little bit more aggressively" than they did last winter, when they picked up Chad Green's $21 million option. That's biggest bullpen deal by this front office so far
Adding to the Blue Jays bullpen is a clear necessity as they head into free agency since they Blue Jays relievers were atrocious this season apart from a few exceptions such as Green.
Atkins also touched on trying to after some big time pitchers this off-season as well as they are looking to improve their pitching rotation but he did not disclose any players names they might be interested in.
Asked about Jays' interest in starting pitching, Ross Atkins says Blue Jays will stay in the market for impact starters while also exploring fits for depth starters this winter.
Finally there was mention of trying to bring in a big time hitter to their lineup for next season which did worry the fans since this exact plan is what ruined last off-season as Atkins spent all of his time trying to sign Shohei Ohtani.
Hopefully the Blue Jays due a better job this year with free agency as they need so key pieces if they plan on actually making it to the post-season.
