The Toronto Blue Jays CEO Mark Shapiro met with the media this morning and was asked about Vladimir Guerrero's future with the team regarding contract negotiations.
Fans were excited to see what Shapiro had to say on the season but it was more of the same as he gave basically no real answers, mostly deflecting all questions to Ross Atkins.
When asked if Vladimir Guerrero was a generational player, Shapiro said he is a great player but does not know if could consider him a generational player. Meanwhile just last week, manager John Schneider said Guerrero is not doubt a generational player.
Asked John Schneider last week whether Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was a generational player:
Schneider: "Absolutely.. yea."
Mark Shapiro was asked the same question today:
"He's one of the better offensive players... he's a great player."
This seems outrageous that the front office is willing to gamble with Guerrero's future as he has made it clear he wants to stay but it is management who seems unsure if they want to keep him.
After Mark Shapiro ended his press conference, it seemed like the only question that was actually answered was that general manager Ross Atkins would be returning.
