Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins met with the media today following CEO Mark Shapiro meeting with the media while giving now real answer to the reporters regarding the Blue Jays future.
One of the main things Shapiro did confirm is that the Blue Jays will be keeping Atkins as their general manager moving forward despite rumors that he might be gone or switched to a different role.
During Atkins press conference he spoke of the changes regarding the Blue Jays coaching staff and stated that Don Mattingly would be staying with the team but transitioning to a more standard role in terms of bench coach, no longer touching of the team's offense.
News: Don Mattingly is moving into a «more traditional role» as the bench coach, no longer the offensive coordinator.
Atkins says Mattingly will impact the #BlueJays in a «different» and «bigger» way
The Blue Jays general manager also took some of the blame stating that he has to be able to put a better core together but failed to give any answers as to how he will be doing that moving forward.
Ross Atkins announces Don Mattingly is no longer in charge of the offense, and is returning to a more "traditional bench coach" role.
