It is not breaking news that Bo Bichette is struggling at the plate this season for the Toronto Blue Jays. After looking at the metrics, there may be a larger issue at hand than previously anticipated.

Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays is experiencing a rough start to the 2024 season with declining metrics and a disappointing .205/.262/.295 line. Consider selling Bo Bichette as a quick turnaround is unlikely.
The 26-year-old and former 2-time All-Star is batting a meager .198 with an On Base of .254. He has only 1 homerun and 23 hits in 116 at bats...
But after looking at the metrics, there may be larger issue with his swing. His expected performance in key areas like hitting and power, represented by metrics such as expected Batting Average (xBA) and expected Slugging Percentage (xSLG), is notably low. For instance, his expected Batting Average (xBA) is .221, indicating he's not hitting as well as expected, and his expected Slugging Percentage (xSLG) is .327, suggesting a lack of power. obviously...
These metrics place him in the bottom tenth percentile among qualified hitters. In contrast, last season, he performed much better, with an expected Batting Average (xBA) of .312 and a strong expected Slugging Percentage (xSLG) of .502.
One factor contributing to this downturn is Bichette's increased ground ball, which has risen by by 5% and decreased line drive rate by 10% this season.
Given these analytics, it may be wise to consider alternatives as they don't indicate a quick improvement for Bo. Even though we all hope so.
