The Toronto Blue Jays have made offers to both free agents Pete Alonso and Max Scherzer but unfortunately in looks like the negotiations have now stalled.
The Blue Jays negotiations with Pete Alonso and Max Scherzer have stalled
After reports on the Blue Jays offer to Alonso came in many believed that the two parties were closing in on a deal but it looks like they are not as close as many though they were.
According to MLB insiders Shi Davidi and Ben Nicholson-Smith, the Blue Jays negotiations with Alonso and Scherzer are on going but have no picked up any momentum contrary to recent reports.
Despite increasing reporting and speculation linking them to Pete Alonso and Max Scherzer, the Toronto Blue Jays are not progressing toward a deal with either free agent, according to industry sources. -Davidi

This makes sense that talks with Scherzer have also stalled if there has been no real progress with Alonso since it is believed that Scherzer will not come to Toronto unless Alonso is signed first.
This is terrible timing for the Blue Jays since their back up option in outfielder Jurickson Profar has now signed a three year deal with the Atlanta Braves.
Meanwhile, another potential Blue Jays target landed elsewhere Thursday as Jurickson Profar signed a three-year, $42 million deal with Atlanta. -Davidi
Now that Profar is gone as well, this means that adding
Alonso is there last real shot at landing a top tier hitter this off-season as they are running out of time quickly.
