On the big defeat by the Detroit Tigers on the White Sox to hand them their 121st loss, they also clinched their first playoff birth in 10 years as 2014 eas their last appearance.

With this loss, they have broken the modern era loss record set by the New York Mets in 1962, which was also their inaugural season into the league. The true record was set in 1899 by the Cleveland Spiders where they achieved an abysmal record of 20-134.
