Toronto Blue Jays veteran pitcher Max Scherzer left yesterday's game with an injury and it looks like he will not be returning to the mound anytime soon.

During the Blue Jays 9-5 loss yesterday, Scherzer was the starting pitcher but left after three innings due to lat soreness which came from his arm trying to compensate for the pain in his thumb.

Fans were panicking after Scherzer left the game yesterday and things only got worse as the pitcher confirmed that he will likely be out for a certain period of time with this injury.
After the game, Scherzer told reporters that he would do everything he can to properly fix this issue but would not be returning to the mound until it is fully healed once and for all.
Max Scherzer says the lat injury is 100% related to his thumb and he felt he would put himself in «imminent danger» if he kept pitching.

«The thumb is absolutely critical to your arm health. I've got to get this 100% before I pitch again.» #BlueJays

Scherzer added that he wants to pitch which is why he has been trying to force this recovery to pick up the pace and has been pitching but has no realized that he needs it to fully heal if he wants to play properly.
«I'm frustrated. I want to pitch,» Scherzer said. Plans to work with team doctors to determine next steps.

This is terrible news for the Blue Jays who have now had two pitchers go down in their first 3 games of the 2025 season.
