The Toronto Blue Jays organization continues to evaluate its talent and depth as Grapefruit League continues to roll on and the team seems cautiously optimistic about the play of Orelvis Martinez who has impressed the coaching staff early on in Spring Training seems to be forcing them to keep him this season.

Many in the organization has hoped that Martinez will be able to breakthrough and become a full-time roster player as he has been with the organization since he was 16 years old.

Martinez looking to make the roster this season

At 23 years old, Martinez has an opportunity to become the bat that the Blue Jays are looking for as the team had attempted to sign a power bat through free agency which did not go as planned.
Martinez has shown power in his bat as he had collected three hits along with two walks and three RBI's. He also hit a shot to the right field against the New York Yankees which is 390 feet.
The biggest test for Martinez will be watching the strikeouts, as the prospect has struggled with chasing pitches at times and has seen his K% sit comfortably above the 20% mark for almost all his professional career, ranking as high as 28.5% back in 2022 when he spent 118 games in double-A New Hampshire.

He will also need to work on his defensive metrics, as his fielding ability at the hot corner is behind MLB ready for the most part and there isn't a lot of playing time to be had at second base this time around, but the club could find a way to get his bat into the lineup via the DH spot. Blue Jays looking for more offense in early days of the season

The Blue Jays will continue to search for offence and the notion that Martinez could be a bat they need from their farm system would be a great boost to the team and could help general manager Ross Atkins by taking some pressure off the need for a trade early on.
Atkins had stated that the team would improve itself through trade rather than signing free agents as all free agents that they were interested in had been signed to other teams.
The Blue Jays had helped themselves in their bullpen, starting pitching and their outfield but a power bat was one area they had a tough time nailing down.
The Blue Jays will take to the mound today against the Atlanta Braves at cool today park and game time will be at 1:05 PM eastern.
