The Toronto Blue Jays are still desperate to add a starting pitcher to their rotation and it looks like former Boston Red Sox pitcher Nick Pivetta might be that player.

The Blue Jays starting rotation struggled last season and adding to it is clearly one of their priorities this off-season but they have unfortunately failed to sign any of their targets so far this off-season.

The Blue Jays are looking to sign free agent pitcher Nick Pivetta

The Blue Jays have discussed the possibility of adding multiple starting pitchers but up until now they have yet to close a deal while a few solid pitchers are still available.
According to reports, the Blue Jays are interested in possibly signing Canadian free agent pitcher Nick Pivetta who insider Ryan Finkelstein believes will sign a $40 million deal with the Blue Jays.

Finkelstein also mentioned how the Blue Jays could also be interested in signing free agent pitcher Jack Flaherty who they have been rumored to be interested in as well.
"With top free agent starters Corbin Burnes, Sean Manaea, and Walker Buehler all coming off the board in this update, the market for starting pitching is starting to get thin," Finkelstein wrote. "Outside of Jack Flaherty, Nick Pivetta now stands out as the top free-agent starter left for teams looking for rotation help. -Finkelstein

While Pivetta is not the most talented arm available as he is coming off a season with a 4.14 ERA in 27 games in 2024, he has shown consistency over the last few seasons with an ERA around 4.00 since 2021.
Pivetta isn't quite the talent as these other players, but he could be a fine addition alongside a slew of other free agents. The Blue Jays need to make some additions and it would make sense to take a flier on the Red Sox's righty. -Finkelstein

Even if the Blue Jays do not sign Pivetta, they need to at least find one decent pitcher to add to their starting rotation.
