The Toronto Blue Jays have already made a four year offer to free agent Anthony Santander and despite looking for a long term contract, he seems to be willing to take on a smaller deal to make more money.

The Blue Jays recently made Santander an offer worth $82 million over 4 years to him but it was said that he was ideally looking for a term of at least five years which is why Toronto was looking to increase their offer.

Blue Jays free agent target Anthony Santander seems to have changed his mind

Santander made it clear that his goal this off-season was to find job security by signing a long term contract that was at least 5 years but it looks like he has changed his mind.
According to reports, Santander is now open to taking a smaller term if it will bring him back a higher average salary which could end up being perfect for the Blue Jays.
Now, the Blue Jays have reportedly already offered Santander a four-year contract, but if he's willing to take less years, perhaps they can find a way to get him on a one or two-year deal.

Though the Jays don't really have an issue with money, being able to save on the total value of a contract is generally desired by all organizations. -Farkas

While there are some positives here, the issue is that having Santander willing to take on a smaller deal will bring on competition for the Blue Jays as other teams will definitely gain interest.
Santander is coming off a great season in 2024 with the Orioles and is exactly what the Blue Jays need in terms of offense after a 44 homerun season.
The 30-year-old Santander is native of Venezuela and coming off an incredible year for Baltimore where he hit .235 with 44 homers and brought in 102. A lifetime .246 hitter, he helped Baltimore get to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons (2023 and 2024). -Farkas

While landing Santander on a smaller contract would be much more appealing to the Blue Jays, it might also bring on some issues unfortunately.
