The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to add a starting pitcher to their rotation and according to reports, they are interested in trading for San Diego Padres Michael King.

The Blue Jays have been eyeing a few pitchers lately including Max Scherzer, Nick Pivetta and Jack Flaherty but they have yet to get close to finalizing a deal which is why they are looking at Michael King.

The Padres are apparently looking to move King this off-season as they are trying to trim their payroll before the start of the season as he is currently in the final year of his deal at $8.62 million.
It's hard to fathom why an MLB team with a payroll pushing $200 million needs to shed salary to stay competitive, but the San Diego Padres are once again looking to trim their payroll. -Hunter

According to reports, the Blue Jays are very interested in King as he would be a great addition to their starting rotation since he is much stronger of a pitcher than any free agent still available.
After swinging and missing on Corbin Burnes and Roki Sasaki, the Blue Jays are still looking to improve upon their starting five for the 2025 season. King would be a huge anchor to Toronto's starting rotation in need of some high-end talent with big strikeout potential. -Hunter

King had an unbelievable season in San Diego in 2024 as he finished with a 2.95 ERA in 173.2 innings pitched in which he struck out 201 batters which resulted in him being named to the ALL-MLB second team.
The asking price will certainly be high for King as the Padres will likely expect a top end prospect in return but it would definitely be worth it as King is an incredible pitcher and is only 29 years old.
The Blue Jays off-season started off terribly but could end up being one of their best off-seasons in a long time if they can close on a few of these finals deals.
