New York Yankees announce shocking update as Gerrit Cole is likely done for the season

The New York Yankees announced some terrible news yesterday regarding their ace Gerrit Cole as it looks like his season might already be done due to a serious injury.
Two days ago, Yankees star Giancarlo Stanton announce that his season and even his career might be over after stating that both of his elbows are severely injury from bat adjustments he made last season.
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole might need season ending Tommy John surgery
The Yankees announced on Friday that Cole has been dealing with an injury and that they had him take some tests to see the severity of the injury but it is apparently worse than they originally thought.
MLB insider Jim Bowden announced late last night that Cole received results that he will need season ending Tommy John surgery but the Yankees are now waiting on a second opinion before making any big decisions.
Yankees fans have been nervously awaiting news regarding ace Gerrit Cole ever since he was sent for «diagnostic tests» on his elbow on Friday. Today, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports that Cole has been recommended for Tommy John surgery, though the Yankees are currently waiting to receive a second opinion to confirm that diagnosis. -Deeds
If Cole ends up needing surgery he will miss the entire 2025 season and likely a good portion of the 2026 season since the recovery process for Tommy John is very long.
Even if the Yankees figure out a way to have Cole avoid surgery and end up having him only rehab his injury, he will definitely miss a solid portion of the 2025 season.
If the diagnosis is confirmed, the Yankees would lose Cole for not only the 2025 season but likely at least some of the 2026 campaign as well. Even if a second opinion suggests that Cole could rehab the issue rather than go under the knife, even a relatively minor elbow issue could wipe out much of Cole's 2025 campaign. -Deeds
The Yankees have gotten some terrible news in the past two days and it looks like they might end up with some key missing pieces in 2025 which will likely stop them from reaching the World Series once again.
