The Toronto Blue Jays have quite a few holes to fill this off-season and are looking at multiple options including possibly trading third baseman Addison Barger.
The Blue Jays looking to possibly trade third baseman Addison Barger
Addison Barger had a very decent rookie season for the Toronto Blue Jays despite bouncing up and down between the minors and majors, he seems to show promise of a full time major leaguer in the future.
The 25 year old unfortunately does not fit into the Blue Jays plans for next season since they are set at third base and his offense is not good enough yet to force the Blue Jays to make room for him in their lineup.
Since the Blue Jays do not seem to have room for him, they will likely look to trade him this off-season as he does have trade value being as he is a young and talented player.
Barger's value is clear: he can rake and he plays strong defense highlighted with one of the stronger throwing arms you'll find out of a position player.
His tradeability comes from the fact that he's one of many players who will be vying for playing time in the 2025 Blue Jays infield. He doesn't feel like a player that should be sent straight to Triple-A to start next year, so perhaps moving him for a relief pitcher makes a degree of sense?
The Cardinals could use him in multiple different spots, so it's not insane to think he could be a part of a package for Helsely or Arenado. -Treuden
Reports suggest that the Cardinals could be a potential landing spot as they are looking to move Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley which would both be great fits for the Blue Jays.
If the Blue Jays end up keeping Barger, they will need to at least move one of their young infielders since holding onto to all of them does not make any sense, especially when they have so many holes that they need to fill.
