The Blue Jays are interested in signing outfielder Anthony Santander
The Blue Jays missed out on Juan Soto last night as he decided to sign with the Mets which leaves Toronto without their top offensive target of the off-season which is why they are looking into Anthony Santander.
According to MLB insider Don Lennon, he believes that the Blue Jays will be the top landing spot for Santander this off-season but that they are not the only team interested in him especially since Soto signed.
Don Lennon of Newsday recently predicted that Soto would sign with the Yankees, rendering the Jays' efforts fruitless. However, he also predicted that Toronto would land current Baltimore Orioles All-Star outfielder Anthony Santander instead--not a bad consolation prize. -Roberts
Santander would be a great solution for the Blue Jays lack of offense as he is coming off a career season in Baltimore with 44 homeruns, a .235 batting average and .305 on base percentage.
Santander, 30, slashed .235/.305/.509 in 2024, thanks to a whopping 44 home runs, the second-most in the American League. He's not great at taking walks or chasing down balls in the alley, but he's better at hitting the ball over the fence than almost everyone else in the game. -Roberts
The one issue that has come up with Santander is that many insiders believe that this was his best season and his contract will be paying him for what he did in 2024 even if he falls short of that in years to come.
While it could be seen as a risky signing, the Blue Jays need to find a solution to their lack of offense.
