The New York Mets held a press conference today with their GM David Stern and owner Steve Cohen who seem to make it clear that they are done pursuing Pete Alonso.
The Blue Jays have been deemed the likely landing spot for Alonso this winter as they have the highest offer on the board and seem to be the team that has the most interest in him.
Steve Cohen makes comments regarding free agent Pete Alonso as it looks like they done with him
The Mets held a press conference today in which fans began to chant Pete Alonso's name and as Cohen often done, he did not beat around the bush and told fans exactly what is going on.
Cohen stated that the negotiations have been the hardest situation he has ever dealt with, even harder than with Juan Soto as they feel like everything offered from Alonso's team seem to put the Mets in a bad position.
"I don't like the negotiations. I don't like what's been presented to us."
Steve Cohen talks about the Mets' negotiations with Pete Alonso and the possibility of the Mets moving forward without him:
«Soto was tough, this is worse.» - Steve Cohen on the Pete Alonso negotiations.
Strong and straightforward words from the Mets owner.
The Mets owner also stated that the team has continued to fill their roster and stated that as they continue to add players, there might not be any room left for Alonso at the end of this.
This is great news for the Blue Jays who now seem to be the last team standing when it comes to Alonso, all that is left is for the two parties to finally agree on a number which they seem to be approaching.
Since the Mets are not out, this might give the Blue Jays the upper hand int he negotiations and help them land Alonso at a fair price.
