The Toronto Blue Jays seem to be seriously trying to get a contract extension done with Vladimir Guerrero Jr but it looks like he might not be signing a contract extension after all.

If the Blue Jays are not willing to make Guerrero an offer around $500 million which is what he is apparently looking for, then the chances are quite high of him waiting for free agency when he will have multiple teams biding on him.
Guerrero had an incredible 2024 season and if he is able to follow that up in 2025 with another MVP caliber season, he will surely be getting money he is hoping for from the Blue Jays or another team.
While if Guerrero waits until free agency to sign, he can always return to Toronto much like Aaron Judge did with the Yankees but it is definitely a lot more pressure on the Blue Jays front office as they might end up losing him for nothing.
This situation of not being able to lock Guerrero down to a contract extension will also hurt their chances of landing big time free agents as even Corbin Burnes has stated he has some worries about the team's future.
The smart decision would be for the Blue Jays to simply make a proper offer to Guerrero that will make him not wanting to risk missing out on the money since he value can go up this season but it can easily go down as well.
It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out before the season begins.
